System Requirements
-
A Pentium III 500 Mhz or faster processor (Pentium 4 is highly recommended for smooth video playback.
-
At least 64 MB RAM. 128 MB or more is strongly recommended.
-
A wheel mouse is strongly recommended.
-
A video card capable of displaying at least 800 x 600 pixels at 16-bit color depth.
-
A card capable of displaying at least 1024 x 768 at 16-bit or 32-bit color depth is strongly recommended.
-
At least 200 MB free disk space.
-
Approximately 8 MB is required to store a 2 second video in DV format. Eagle Eye DV itself requires less than 10 MB. Microsoft DirectX 8.1 Runtime requires 25 MB.
-
Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows ME, Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP (Home or Professional).
-
OHCI compliant firewire (built-in or add-on card). Firewire is also known as i.Link (by Sony) or as IEEE 1394.
-
A quality audio card.
-
Microsoft DirectX 8.1 or higher. The Eagle Eye DV 2006 CD contains DirectX 9.
-
Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 9 or higher. This is required if you want to email video in video format. It is not required for emailing still shots.
-
Microsoft Media Encoder 9 is available only for Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP.
The Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer is highly recommended, either cordless or standard. We prefer the corded one because the cordless is a bit choppy. For left-handers, the Microsoft Intellimouse Optical is nearly as good and will fit your left hand better.
Eagle Eye DV has been tested with the built-in Sony i.Link port on VAIO laptop and desktop computers and with the PCI DV card included with Digital Origin's IntroDV. It has also been tested with the OrangeLink and Maxtor CardBus PCCards.
Additional considerations when using two video camera's simultaneously:
- A Pentium 4 or AMD XP 1.6 Ghz or faster processor OR a Pentium 4M 1 Ghz or faster processor for 2 cameras.
- A Pentium 4 or AMD XP 2.4 Ghz or faster processor OR a Pentium 4M 1.4 Ghz or faster processor is recommended for 3 or more cameras.
- 512 MB RAM for 2 cameras.
- 1 GB RAM is recommended for 3 or more cameras.
-
A video card with 64 MB of RAM.
-
We recommend running it at XGA (1024 x 768 at 16-bit or 32-bit color depth).
-
In general, you need one OHCI compliant firewire card (built-in or add-on) for each camera, even if the cards have multiple ports. This is a limitation of how the camcorders works on the firewire bus. We have verified this with Microsoft. In some cases, two camcorders will work on the same firewire card, but this is not a recommended configuration. There is support for up to eight cameras. For laptops, however, there will in most cases be a practical limit of two or three and for desktops, a practical limit of four.
-
Microsoft DirectX 9 .This is required if you plan to use the preview feature during multiple camera capture. The preview feature displays the Swing in multiple capture windows as capture progresses.
